A simple search through the help-wanted ads nearly 30 years ago set the course for my career and, ultimately, my life. I was a young mother with an infant son, looking for any job close to his caregiver, when I found an HVAC company looking for office help. I applied, accepted the position, and had no idea it was the beginning of a career in an industry that would become a huge part of my life.

I've always wanted to understand how and why things work, so I quickly wanted to learn much more than the office side. I immersed myself in the trade while building a strong understanding of the accounting, operational, and business practices it takes to run a successful mechanical contracting company.

Later I moved to the supplier side, working directly with a manufacturer's representative. There I strengthened my estimating and blueprint takeoff skills, preparing multimillion-dollar quotes for some of the largest mechanical contractors in the Dallas area, and gained an understanding of HVAC from both the contractor and supplier sides.

After relocating to Corsicana, I kept making the daily commute to Dallas until my husband and I decided it was time to take our experience, work ethic, and vision and make our own mark here. In July 2003, Area Wide Services was born.

Starting the company was only the beginning. We have never stopped working to make it better: learning, changing, growing, making mistakes, celebrating successes, embracing new technology, and investing in our employees. I've stayed hands-on in nearly every part of the business, from operations, accounting, and estimating to marketing, customer experience, employee development, technology, and strategic planning.

To me, success comes from building lasting relationships, standing behind our work, treating customers with honesty and respect, and creating a workplace where our employees know they are valued. I am incredibly proud of the team behind Area Wide Services and of the culture we continue to build: integrity, dependability, accountability, and genuine customer service.

Outside of work, I love spending time with the people, and plants, that mean the most to me. Some of my favorite memories are made traveling with my husband and our best friends. At home you'll usually find me in the garden or adding another plant to my collection. I also enjoy the occasional fishing trip, time with our sons, Jimmy and Tyler, and our fur-boys, Jax and Dexter.

Some of the biggest opportunities in life can begin in the most unexpected places, and sometimes you don't realize you are starting the story of a lifetime until you are already living it.

Hard work, independence, and a desire to figure out how things work have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which taught me leadership, responsibility, perseverance, and following through on a commitment, and by 15 I had a hardship driver's license and the responsibility that came with it.

My career began in property maintenance, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the systems that keep a property running. I found I enjoyed mechanical work and had a natural ability to diagnose problems and find solutions.

That led me into HVAC as a subcontract technician, where I learned the trade and the realities of the business from the ground up: managing jobs, solving problems under pressure, taking care of customers, and earning the trust of the people who depended on me.

As my experience grew, so did the projects. I built my own mechanical contracting business, completing work for multiple hotels across the Dallas–Fort Worth area and for large assisted-living facilities, work that demanded planning, coordination, and accountability to owners, general contractors, and facility operators.

Wanting to step away from large-scale commercial new construction, and after relocating to Corsicana, we decided to build something of our own in the community we called home. We launched Area Wide Services in July 2003.

My focus has stayed rooted in what first drew me to this industry: solving problems, doing quality work, and never being afraid to get my hands dirty. More than two decades later, I'm proud of what we've built and even more proud of the people who helped build it. Success isn't just growing a company. It's building a reputation for quality and integrity, creating opportunities for the people who work alongside us, and leaving behind something we're proud to put our name on.

Outside of work, family matters most. I enjoy time with my sons, Jimmy and Tyler, traveling with my wife, family, and friends, and getting outdoors to hunt or fish, where, depending on how it goes, I come home with either a great story or a good excuse for why I didn't bring anything back.

After years of building a business, I've learned that success means a lot more when you have family and good friends to share it with.

I was born and raised in North Texas and spent much of my adult life in the technology sector, travelling the country supervising the buildout of cellular networks. In 2004 I moved to Houston, where I met my wife, Wendy. Our twin girls arrived in 2006, and in 2007 we relocated to the family farm in Chappell Hill to raise them in a small-town community.

When I'm not working you'll find me fishing, boating, hunting, golfing, working on the farm, or travelling with Wendy to watch our daughters play college volleyball.

I hope my legacy is the imprint my children leave on their community. Wendy and I have always focused on raising young women who will thrive, lead, and give back for the gifts they have been blessed with.
